Source Rock and other Hydrocarbon System Reports

It is the author's intention to undertake several reports focusing on aspects of the Hydrocarbon Systems of the Arabian Plate. For a one page flyer that describes the format of this report (Down Load Source Rock Flyer here) here

Data digitized and recast from Wilson, A. O., (1984) and Carrigan, W. J. et al.(1994).

Source Rock of the Arabian Plate: A Review for Exploration- will be a non-exclusive report. It will be written for the needs of those doing exploration and planning exploration. The report covers source rock and product. The report couples a through unit by unit stratigraphic review with a regional synthesis. The synthesis attempts to quantitatively relate know original reserves to source rock. The synthesis also focuses on product in relation to source rock. Finally the synthesis attempts a vertical comparison and contrast of units in hopes that such a review will help understanding of circumstances of deposition and likelyhood of as yet undiscovered source rock intervals.

Please pay attention to these pages for further announcements as I intend to make available for free down load a pdf file of a portion of the source rock report.

The source rock report attempts to provide necessary facts pertaining to source rock that the explorer needs. This work makes extensive use of digitization of data from graphic displays in the literature. The above histogram is a combination of data from Wilson, A. O., (1984) and Carrigan, W. J. et al.(1994). I attempt to present a TOC histogram for each of the stratigraphic units with source rock potential. For those source rock intervals for which more data is available I attempt to present a table with the following: average and maximum TOC, HI, and area of the source rock distribution. Additionally for the important source rock intervals I include a map which shows the distribution of the source rock as portrayed by today's literature. Note, that since I have done extensive regional mapping of the Arabian Plate from the Neogene to the Precambrian I am able to select from the literature what is consistent and reasonable in light of my own regional mapping. On these maps, in addition to source rock distribution I attempt to point out locations of wells where the source rock has been sampled and geochemistry confirms source rock. Fields or wells where oil to source rock correlation has been made in the literature. The report is organized stratigraphically and is "book marked" in pdf so one can easily go to each stratigraphic interval of interest. There will be a bibliography organized stratigraphically as well as a references cited.

The following is a list of Hydrocarbon System elements that I eventually wish to address in subsequent reports.

Source Rock
Maturation
Digital Stratigraphy
Carrier Systems
Gathering Systems
Traps
Seals
Reservoirs
Waste Zones
Preservation
Timing
Undiscovered Reserves
