This interpretation has been constructed by analysis of both 30- and 10- meter digital elevation models. These data were brought into "Vertical Mapper" and illuminated from three or more azimuths to attempt to maximize the observation as many lineaments as possible. In the case of the 10-meter data I split the data into 30 quadrangles for detailed interpretation. I also gathered various tectonic maps from the literature to overlay on the DEM data to get some cross corroboration. For additional analysis I used elevation alone on the 30-meter data to create maps without azimuthal shading and with a large number of color sliced. This technique seemed to be particularly good at imaging longer lineaments which often seem to result from the aggregate of a variety shorter length lineaments not necessarily having the same azimuth. On the map above these longer lineaments are colored dusky red. The heavy black lines with cross bars are interpreted by me to be fissure sources for volcanic eruptions. Black triangles are volcanos from the USGS database and red circles are epicenters. The axial positions in the zagros fold belt were interpreted with azimuth illuminated 30-meter data.
Some of the lineaments are fold axes and flanks as well as faults and fractures. There is a little data from the literature on the Saudi shield. This map does look trashy, however, it has it real value in smaller scale maps.
